Which is better: coffee or tea? (Disclaimer: long post )
As both a coffee and tea drinker, I think I have somewhat of a unique perspective on the two drinks. I know many people who are either coffee drinkers or tea drinkers, but not both. However, sometimes I feel as though people have not had a good cup of coffee or tea, and so they don’t have a solid grasp on how each drink should taste. In this post, I am going to explain why, for me, each drink offers a vastly different but enjoyable experience. I grew up in a household where my mom drank coffee (a true Dunkin’ Donuts addict might I add) and my dad strictly drank tea. My mom was literally one of those people who would be in the Dunkin’ line in the morning no matter what---she was going to have her large hazelnut with cream on the side. She did not care what time of year it was or if she had time to stop. My dad on the other hand could not stand coffee. He would often make tea in the morning and take it with him on the go. I should note here that my mom would drink tea, but very seldomly and usually only when she wasn’t feeling well. Either way, my parents clearly drank their beverages for vastly different reasons. My mom wanted her jolt of caffeine, but she really did enjoy the taste. For my dad, it seemed as though making a cup of tea was more of a passive activity he just did. He did not “need” his tea (although sometimes he would make sure he had a cup of tea with his dessert). I have always enjoyed both tea and coffee. I should add that I definitely had tea more often when I was younger as I really didn’t enjoy the taste of coffee until I was a teenager. I truly feel however that I can’t substitute the two beverages today in my life. I drink coffee nearly every day, but not because I really care about caffeine. I honestly believe I just love the smell and routine of getting a hot cup of coffee, adding cream to it, and taking that first sip. I also love going to small coffee shops and trying the different flavors. Sugar is not something I put in my coffee unless the cup is exceptionally bold/dark. Aside from a regular hot cup of coffee, I am a frequent iced coffee consumer (even when it’s cold in the Northeast, I really could care less). Iced coffee is extremely refreshing to me, and if I need to have a good study session I will often grab iced coffee. On the other hand, I drink tea when I am sick or want a relaxing drink after dinner. I tend to associate tea with health, wellness, and relaxation. Iced tea is also a refreshing drink for me in the summer. To be honest, I don’t think that I could replace my almost daily coffee with tea. However, if I am feeling under the weather I will absolutely trade my coffee for tea, especially if I have an upset stomach. Overall, coffee makes me feel like I have a handle on my day. It offers a perfect jolt of caffeine, and it truly brings a sense of nostalgia to my mornings. However, sometimes I just cannot stand coffee. It is easily puts me over the edge in terms of caffeine consumption and can leave me with a nasty headache. I find that if I haven’t eaten, I shouldn’t consume coffee. With tea, I have none of these problems. I actually really enjoy tea when I am under the weather. The process of steeping the tea, adding honey or lemon, and enjoying the cup are extremely calming. Thanks for reading my perspective on these two incredible beverages! Share your own coffee and tea experiences below, we would love to hear them!

We all have those people in our lives we know haven't started their day without their daily cup of tea. Below is our tribute to our tea lovers. Tea Lovers Unite! 1. For your tea time aficionado...2. When you are 10 cups in by 10 am...3. Spilling the tea on the job...4. Seeing your bestie after being away for 1 hour...5. Tea drinkers by their 7th cupAnd that's the tea for today!
Here at And That's The Tea Co., we aim to provide our viewers and subscribers with information about the positive effects of adding tea to our daily lifestyles. Each week, we will provide a "Tea Spotlight", which will examine the benefits of a variety of teas. Disclaimer: And That's The Tea Co. does not intend to diagnose or treat any medical illnesses. While tea does have health benefits, any viewers/subscribers with serious illnesses should seek professional medical advice. Potential Benefits: Our first spotlight will center around my favorite tea, green tea. According to Time magazine and Healthline, tea derives many of its health benefits from antioxidants. Antioxidants help our bodies in a variety of ways--from fat burning to disease fighting! Additionally, studies have shown that catechins (compounds found in green tea) can help our bodies resist memory related illnesses such as Alzheimer's. Aside from the aforementioned, the list of potential benefits goes on and on! Additional Health Information: While green tea may be linked to the health benefits mentioned above and in many other websites and blogs, we ask our readers to understand that there is a lot of information unknown about the drink. Scientists need to do more research about the true effects of green tea. However, aside from the potential health benefits, there are many other reasons to drink green tea! Andrew's Take on The Tea: I personally drink green tea because it tastes incredibly smooth and light. Plus, it is a great alternative for sugary sodas or sweetened teas. As a health conscious person, I am constantly looking for alternatives to sugar drinks. I love drinks such as smoothies, but they are time consuming to make and expensive to purchase at a cafe. Green tea is perfect for people like me, who value convenience and like to drink more than just plain water. One of my favorite ways to enjoy green tea is with a bit of raw/locally sourced honey and lemon. Next time you are thirsty and can't decide on what to drink, try brewing a good quality green tea. Steep the tea according to its instructions and add a tablespoon or so of honey and a generous lemon wedge. For an iced version, let the tea cool and add ice. It's that simple! You can take your green tea to work, the gym, or to class! It truly is a versatile and delicious beverage. Plus, you won't feel guilty about having a cup, or three! Thank you so much for reading!
